Find the right motorhome for your trip to Iceland
Driving your own vehicle is one of the best ways to tour the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland. In a motorhome, you can enjoy this experience to the fullest, by staying out beneath the stars in a self-contained living space.
With Höldur, you have a range of motorhomes to choose from, offering comfort and practical travel for between 2 and 5 people. Find out more about the specific vehicles below. We are franchisee in Iceland for two well-known international brands: Europcar and Touringcars.
Why you should tour Iceland in a motorhome
Few people would deny that Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. To explore this jaw-dropping nation to the fullest, the best way to travel is in a motorhome.
A motorhome can take you across Iceland’s varied landscapes, from the rugged coastlines of the Westfjords to geothermal wonders of the Golden Circle—and to the jewels of the north coast. With its self-contained living space, it provides comfort and convenience without you having to pay for additional accommodation.
That means you can pull up in campsites across the country and enjoy the view from the comfort of your bed or dining table. It’s a cosy retreat after a long day’s adventures.

What you should know about hiring a motorhome in Iceland
All of our motorhomes at Höldur are available to rent between 1st of April and 7th October. It’s important to be aware that we have a minimum rental period of 7 days for these vehicles.
To rent a motorhome with Höldur, you need to be at least 23 years of age. You also need to have had your driving licence for at least a year. However, you do not need to have a special driving licence—a standard licence will suffice.
All the vehicles come with:
- Cooking and dining essentials. This includes pots and pans for cooking, a coffee strainer, bread knives, a broom and dustpan, dishes, forks, knives, and glasses.
- Gas-operated heating and hot water supply, for your comfort.
- A camping set, including a table and chairs.
Before hiring a motorhome, it’s really important to be aware that these vehicles are not permitted on Iceland’s F-roads, the unpaved roads that cross the highlands. If you want to drive into the highlands, it’s best to hire a 4x4 camper.
