Carbon Sequestration

Our customers can carbon sequestrate their carbon emissions resulting from use of rental cars from Europcar Iceland through tree planting in cooperation with Kolviður – the Iceland Carbon Fund.

During the online booking process or when returning your rental car, one or more trees can be purchased. Price for per tree is in accordance with the pricelist of Kolviður. One tree sequestrates 0,1-ton CO2.

Carbon Sequestration Criteria:

Passenger cars

Average emissions (Toyota Aygo, Kia Ceed Sportwagon) estimated 90-100 gr. CO2/ km.

1 tree sequestrates 0,1-ton CO2 = 900 - 1000 km driving

2 trees sequestrate 0,2-ton CO2 = 1800 - 2000 km driving

3 trees sequestrate 0,3-ton CO2 = 2700 - 3000 km driving

SUVs and larger cars

Average emissions of SUVs and larger diesel cars estimated 130 – 200 gr. CO2/ km.

1 tree sequestrates 0,1-ton CO2 = 500 - 750 km driving

2 trees sequestrate 0,2-ton CO2 = 1000 - 1500 km driving

3 trees sequestrate 0,3-ton CO2 = 1500 - 2250 km driving
