There’s no doubt that Iceland is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with vast uninhabited regions to explore. From the dramatic coastlines to the vast lava fields in the heart of the highlands, much of that beauty lies in the nation’s natural variety.

To explore this variety to the fullest, a 4x4 campervan is your best option. Thanks to its four-wheel drive capabilities, it can take you on the many unpaved roads that criss-cross the heart of Iceland. And with its sleeping and living space, it gives you completely self-contained comfort.

Unlike standard campervans and motorhomes, a 4x4 vehicle is safe to use to explore the highlands. Most rental operators won’t let you drive on the unpaved highland roads in a standard vehicle, meaning you’ll miss out on many of the jewels of Iceland, including Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk. But with a 4x4 campervan, you’ll be able to travel wherever the spirit of adventure takes you.

You’ll be able to sleep in comfort too. The modern Toyota Hilux camper comes equipped with sleeping quarters for two to four persons (two adults and two children) and kitchen facilities. This self-contained accommodation ensures you have a cosy retreat at the end of each day, allowing you to wake up to stunning landscapes right outside your door.

What’s included in a Toyota Hilux Camper?

Without the right equipment, a campervan isn’t very useful at all. That’s why at Höldur, we ensure that all of our 4x4 campers come with everything you need to have the best trip possible.

Alongside space for sleeping and eating, you can expect the following:

• Cooking and dining essentials. This includes pots and pans, cutlery, crockery, and everything else you need to cook.
  
  
• An electrical system. The camper boasts a dedicated 12V electrical system, separate from the car's power source, that provides power for the camper’s lighting and refrigeration.
  
  
• Heating. The vehicle’s Webasto® diesel-operated air heater ensures you stay warm at a temperature that’s right for you.
  
  
• Camping features. The camper’s push-button airlift makes setting up camp a breeze.
