The Suzuki Jimny is a compact, simple, and reliable 4x4. Built to be extremely handy as an off-road vehicle, it’s the perfect option for trips to the highlands or on other unpaved roads in Iceland.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Landmannalaugar or Þórsmörk, this is a great unpretentious choice. And as it’s become a cult classic thanks to its rugged, no-frills design, you’ll look good when driving it too.

Be aware that, while the Suzuki Jimny is perfect for the highland F-roads, it may be overkill if you’re not intending to drive there. If you’re sticking to paved roads or cities, an electric vehicle or a straightforward passenger car may be a better and more comfortable fit.

The same is true if you’re travelling with more than one passenger. As there are just two seats, the Jimny is not the best option for families.

What features does a Suzuki Jimny have?

The Suzuki Jimny is a 3-door petrol 4-wheel drive, with a manual gearbox. It has space for one passenger alongside the driver. You can expect the car to come with the following features:

Thanks to its 4-wheel drive capabilities, it’s a great choice if you’re heading to the highlands. However, it is the smallest 4x4 in our range, and you will find alternatives that are more comfortable.

Who can hire a Suzuki Jimny?

The Suzuki Jimny is best for solo travellers or couples who will be driving off-road or on unpaved roads for shorter journeys. If you’re planning a long trip around Iceland—for instance, on the Ring Road—we’d recommend a larger, more comfortable 4x4 SUV.

You need to be at least 20 years old to rent any vehicle from Höldur, including the Suzuki Jimny. You will also need to have:

• A valid driving licence that you’ve had for at least a year
• A valid passport from your home country
• A credit card that’s valid for at least the period of rental.

We also recommend that you book your vehicle in advance. As Suzuki Jimnys are classic cars, they can be very popular.
